Are Drugs Over-Prescribed? Doctors say YES!

According to a report delivered by the general of the Department of Health and Human Services, harmful prescriptions that cost the U.S. government over 350 million dollars have been prescribed to patients.  But it is not just the investigators saying that these drugs are over-prescribed, the doctors are AGREEING with them by also stating that outrageous numbers of prescriptions are being filled not only by retail drugstores but also by mail order in the U.S.  There is no doubt that some prescriptions are indeed helpful, but still hundreds and even millions of these prescriptions are both unnecessary and extremely dangerous.  As most of you know anyways, there is always that exceedingly fast portion at the end of the drug pill commercials that tells you the risks and possible side effects, which 9 times out of 10 outweigh all the benefits of taking said drug.  “If you suffer from chronic headaches, take this new breakthrough drug called Uthplevuckide.  Possible side effects include diarrhea, loss of limbs, deafness, total body numbness, pregnancy, and death.” Thank you but no thank you.  I think I will just have to live with the chronic headaches.  Luckily, doctors have begun to “see the light” so to speak and start a new fad that includes the recommendation of chiropractic care rather than the prescription of a “miracle” drug.  With these new recommendations surfacing, unnecessary prescribing and testing will slowly decline.   The dawn of a new day on the path of natural healing is on the horizon; and, it is beautiful indeed!

What to look for when looking for the BEST chiropractor.

When searching for a chiropractor how do you know you are calling a great one?  Usually, asking a friend or family member who is happy with their chiropractor is a great way to start. However, what if you are new to the area or you don’t know anyone who sees a chiropractor?  Start on the internet and then call those offices that are close to you.  The best indicator that you have called a caring, competent office is a well trained, happy person answering  the phone.

You will want to find a chiropractor who stays on the cutting edge of research and technology.  Do they have a website?  Do they use any technology to assess you?  Do they use X-rays to get a look inside? Does the Doctor perform an evaluation before any care is rendered?   Does the Chiropractor tell you what’s wrong, how they can help and what a care plan is before care is rendered?  When you meet with the Doctor, are you listened to?  Do you feel cared about?

Many people are concerned about finances when they call offices and call around to price compare or to see who will be covered by their insurance.  A word of caution here, the old saying of “you get what you pay for” is even true in health care.  What we have found to be true is that doctors who don’t participate in insurance plans are able to give you the care you truly need without being severely limited by insurance regulators.
